The Effect of Self-directed Occupational Therapy Learning of Group-Peer Instruction Model based on Clinical Mento Coaching Applied Metacognition

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study was to apply Group-peer instruction model based on clinical mento coaching(CMC-GPI) applied metacognition teaching method necessary to improve the self-directed learning ability for a occupational therapy students and to validate its effects in the educational field.

Method: For this purpose, A curriculum, ``occupational therapy for neurological disease``, was selected for this study. 40 students participated in a real educational settings to verify the effect of a new teaching method for 16 weeks. All participant were evaluated with ``self-directed learning ability`` before and after the applying sessions. The effect of teaching method was evaluated between a new method and two previous method.

Results: The results were as follows. A Group-peer instruction Model based on Clinical Mento Coaching applied metacognition was developed on the foundation of group-peer teaching method, cooperative learning and clinical mentor. Students participated in a new teaching method showed improvements in self-directed learning ability, learning attitude, the satisfaction for lecture.

Conclusions: The results suggest that because CMC-GPI model applied metacognition model might not be perfect, further studies are needed to upgrade model and to broaden its application areas such as another occupational therapy curriculum.
